Ascea Marina has a beautiful and long beach of soft golden sand, bordered by Mediterranean vegetation and beautiful olive trees. At one end, the beach culminates in a small bay bordered by the majestic cliff of Punta del Telegrafo, whose profile is characterized by picturesque coves and hidden coves.
A fascinating walking route starts from the cliff up to the Torre del Telegrafo and allows you to admire one of the most evocative sites of great landscape impact of the Cilento coast, with a breathtaking view.
Ascea Marina boasts a valuable complex that houses the Alario Foundation. The renovation of the ancient Palazzo Alario has been done by the architect Portoghesi, prestigious names in contemporary architecture, with the creation of a multi-purpose complex: Auditorium ‘Parmenide’, the open-air theater ‘Zenone’, the monumental square with the Portico ‘The Passeggiata dei Filosofi which embraces a large garden with orchards.
And then … how not to go to visit the nearby archaeological site of Elea, the ancient polis of Magna Grecia, named in the Roman period Velia.
Up in the hills, guarding the Marina, climb the ancient village of Ascea built by the inhabitants of Velia escaped from the ancient city for the enemy raids that preserves intact the atmosphere of past times. Among the ancient buildings stands Palazzo De Dominicis -Ricci of the end of 1700. In this house the events of two local notable families De Dominicis first and Ricci after are linked to the evolution of the historical and political events of the Cilento. The restoration of the building gave back the austere elegance of the past. Currently it hosts a first part of the many finds found in Velia during the excavations and which until now have not had an adequate location.
